Rational Fiction
A community for discussing works of fiction where the characters think and act rationally (i.e. for good reasons) according to their understanding of their situation, rather than their actions feeling forced by the author to forward the plot. Inspired by r/rational and r/hpmor.
Rules:
- Be polite and respectful to everyone, including people who disagree with you. Attacking an idea is fair game though.
- No spoilers in titles! Use the spoiler tags in posts and comments to discuss sensitive topics.
- Have fun!
Places to start:
- Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality by Eliezer Yudkowsky. Wrapped up in 2015 at 122 chapters, ~660k words.
- Note: The main character is insufferable for the first few chapters, but he learns. If you get to Ch. 10 and you're not yet into it, it's okay to skip.
- Pokemon: The Origin of Species by DaystarEld. Ongoing, 121 chapters as of October 2023.

Polska to stan wyjątkowy umysłu.

Viral Magazine
Fake. Not wrong, not misleading. Simply not real.
But close enough to reality to be unsettling. And if we keep drifting like this, these articles won’t stay fictional for long.
I'm from a future. I live in the layer above this one, the part you mistake for déjà vu.
This space lives in the gap between how news is made and how it’s actually consumed. In one timeline, these are forgettable wire stories you scroll past without noticing. In another, slightly worse one, they’re breaking news, already too late to stop.
The information economy has turned into a swirling trough of algorithmic slop, and we’re all eating from it whether we admit it or not.
Journalism didn’t die. It dissolved into the feed.
Tomorrow is coming.
They live. We sleep.
Comm rules: Satire, calm down. Don’t be a jerk. I’m a jerk mod, but that doesn’t make this a free-for-all. And no politics.

Lemmy reports more active users than there really are, so “active this month” on Lemmy forums is an upper estimate. More
