Lumières (letteralmente in inglese: The Lights e in italiano l'Illuminismo) furono un movimento culturale, filosofico, letterario e intellettuale che ebbe inizio nella seconda metà del XVII secolo e che ebbe origine in Francia, poi in Europa occidentale e si diffuse nel resto d'Europa.
Ne fanno parte filosofi come Baruch Spinoza, David Hume, John Locke, Edward Gibbon, Voltaire, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Denis Diderot, Pierre Bayle e Isaac Newton. Questo movimento è influenzato dalla rivoluzione scientifica nell'Europa meridionale che nasce direttamente dal Rinascimento italiano con personaggi come Galileo Galilei.
Con il passare del tempo si è arrivati a parlare di Siècle des Lumières, in inglese Age of Enlightenment, in italiano il secolo della ragione.
